Yeti 160E T1 review

Yeti, known for their top-tier mountain bikes, ventured into the realm of electric bikes with their 160E model. Designed to tackle the toughest eMTB races, this bike isn’t just for competitive enduro riders; it’s built to impress both amateurs and pros alike.

Equipped with a Shimano EP-8 85Nm torque motor and a 630Wh battery, the Yeti 160E is in direct competition with other high-performance eMTBs like the Specialized S-Works Turbo Levo and the Santa Cruz Bullit CC X01 RSV. And let me tell you, it holds its own quite impressively.

With 160mm of rear-wheel travel, 29-inch wheels front and rear, and modern mountain bike geometry, this bike is designed to tackle any terrain with confidence. Plus, its new six-bar Sixfinity rear-suspension design ensures a smooth and controlled ride, whether you’re hitting the trails or competing in an enduro race.

The top-tier T1 version comes with a price tag of £11,899, while the more affordable C1 version is available for £9,499. Both versions feature Yeti’s TURQ-series carbon fiber frame construction, ensuring durability and performance.

One thing to note is the attention to detail in the frame design, with features like full-length internal cable routing and integrated chain slap protection, ensuring a quiet and smooth ride even on the roughest trails.

When it comes to performance, the Yeti 160E doesn’t disappoint. Its Sixfinity suspension platform offers impressive tunability and control, allowing riders to customize their riding experience to suit their preferences.

During my test rides, I found the bike’s climbing ability to be particularly impressive, thanks to its supportive suspension and balanced geometry. Whether tackling steep ascents or technical climbs, the 160E delivers exceptional grip and stability.

On the descents, the bike truly shines, offering a smooth and controlled ride even on the most challenging terrain. The combination of the Fox 38 Factory fork and Float X2 rear shock provides ample support and damping, allowing riders to push their limits with confidence.

Of course, no bike is without its quirks, and the Yeti 160E is no exception. While the stock components are of high quality, some riders may find the price tag a bit steep, especially considering the availability of top-spec components on other bikes in a similar price range.

Additionally, the Shimano EP-8 motor, while powerful, may feel a bit on/off compared to other systems on the market. However, with some adjustment and getting used to, I found the motor to be more than capable of handling any terrain.

Overall, the Yeti 160E T1 is a top-tier electric mountain bike that offers outstanding performance and versatility. Whether you’re a competitive racer or a weekend warrior, this bike is sure to impress with its exceptional ride quality and advanced features.
