Miami secures 2025 E1 electric powerboat finale, as PIF steps up as presenting partner

Miami will host the grand finale of the 2025 season of the UIM E1 World Championship, the all-electric powerboat racing series, marking the first time the fledgling green sport has staged an event in North America.

The E1 Miami GP, set for November 2025, was unveiled at a high-profile event featuring co-owner of Team Miami, Grammy Award-winning artist Marc Anthony, and E1’s founders, Rodi Basso and Alejandro Agag. Their joint venture with partner Magnus will stage the climactic showdown in the waters off Virginia Key, near the historic Miami Marine Stadium, once the beating heart of American powerboating.

The announcement comes as the Public Investment Fund (PIF) steps in as the presenting partner of the series, now known as the UIM E1 World Championship Presented by PIF. The partnership, part of the E360 initiative linking E1 with electric car and off-road championships Formula E and Extreme E, is intended to accelerate the transition towards electrified racing and sustainable marine technology.

The US expansion underlines E1’s ambition to tap into the world’s largest leisure boating market and capitalise on the support of its high-profile American team owners. Besides Marc Anthony, E1 counts celebrities like Will Smith, Tom Brady, and Steve Aoki among its team investors. Their backing, along with an established US sporting audience, suggests the sport could rapidly gain traction stateside.

For Miami, the event dovetails with the city’s determination to foster sustainable solutions as it grapples with climate challenges. The E1 championship seeks to promote environmentally responsible marine racing, while restoring and protecting coastal ecosystems. Bringing the all-electric RaceBird boats—designed by Sophi Horne’s SeaBird Technologies—to the city known for its love of watersports signals a synergy between innovation, eco-awareness, and entertainment.

Mayor Francis X. Suarez welcomed the development, emphasising Miami’s role as a global hub for technology, finance, and sport. The city’s support paves the way for vital improvements to the marine environment, while stimulating local interest in cutting-edge maritime ventures and paving the way for the Miami Marine Stadium’s revitalisation.

The 2025 E1 season will travel to a range of iconic global host cities, including Monaco, Jeddah, and Doha, before culminating in Miami. Nine teams, each featuring both a male and female pilot, will race the all-electric RaceBirds. Team owners spanning the worlds of sport and entertainment—from tennis star Rafael Nadal to football legend Didier Drogba—underline E1’s efforts to blend cutting-edge technology, sustainability, and celebrity glamour into a new sporting spectacle.

With Miami set to serve as the final stage of Season Two, and the PIF now in the mix, E1’s trajectory suggests a surge in popularity for electric-powered watersports, reshaping marine racing for the green era ahead.
