MG plans two brand-new EVs for 2026, with MG2 and Cyber X to come
MG is set to launch two new EVs in the UK before the middle of 2026 as it continues a rapid expansion of its all-electric line-up.
The Sino-British brand is preparing two all-new models for launch in the first half of next year and has hinted that a compact hatchback rival to the Renault 5 could be in its longer-term plans, alongside its radical-looking Cyber X SUV.
At the launch of the new MGS6 EV, MG sales director Guy Pigounakis confirmed that the first new model would arrive by February and sit just below the existing MG4 in the brand’s line-up.
In spring it will be joined by another brand-new model positioned between the current MG4 and the MGS5.
No specifics were given on either model but Pigounakis said that the first arrival will be in an entirely new segment for MG, suggesting it could be a compact SUV rival to the likes of the Renault 4, BYD Atto 2 and Suzuki E Vitara.

Based on a market briefing presentation, the second new model appears to sit closer to the MG4 hatchback than the MGS5. That could mean it is the MG4’s replacement, which was unveiled in China earlier this year.
If that is the case and the sales of the current MG4 cease, MG will have eight all-electric models on sale in the UK by mid-2026, after having just two – the MG4 and Cyberster – for much of 2025.
The two new cars will join the MGS5 and MG6S in its mainstream line-up, alongside the premium-focused IM5 saloon and IM6 SUV, the Cyberster roadster and the incoming Cyberster GTS coupe.
MG boss David Allison has also suggested that by 2027 the brand could launch a compact hatchback, likely called the MG2, to take on the Renault 5 and Citroen E-C3. Talking to Autocar, he said that a small hatchback was an “obvious” area of the market to explore and MG “will absolutely be in there”.
That model will join a production version of the Cyber X SUV – a Land Rover Defender-sized model intended to join the Cyberster in a new “Cyber” sub-brand as MG’s halo models. Although only unveiled as a concept at the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show, MG’s habit of quickly turning concepts like the Cyberster and Cyberster GTS into production cars suggests the Cyber X could also be on sale by 2027.
