The new Mercedes GLB EV’s interior has a bigger screen than your TV

Mercedes has dropped several interior preview images of its new, second-generation GLB, which will be fully unveiled in all-electric form at a world premiere on December 8 this year.

Central to the images are shots of the latest Superscreen dashboard array. Mercedes hasn’t disclosed the size of the screens fitted to its all-electric GLB, but they appear to be similar to those fitted to its recently-introduced CLA. This translates into a screen-heavy setup with a 10.25 digital instrument cluster, a centrally-positioned 14-inch touchscreen, plus a second same-sized touchscreen for the passenger.

This tri-screen arrangement displayed in the GLB EV’s promo shots is the optional ‘MBUX Superscreen’ as base cars do away with the passenger display.

The standard-fit panoramic roof is a clever piece of kit, with heat-insulating laminated safety glass. Not dissimilar to the new Nissan Leaf, the roof’s infrared-reflecting coating and low-emissivity (LowE) coating in the inside helps cool the cabin in winter and warm it in summer.

As an optional extra, a transparency feature can tweak the clarity or opacity of independent roof segments in as little as 10 milliseconds. To attract a discerning customer base as possible, the GLB’s panoramic roof can be specced to light up in the same colour as the rest of the interior ambient lights.

Mercedes says that the panoramic roof also frees up second-row seat space in the GLB EV. More newly-found practicality up front comes in the form of a tweaked roofline, while the second-row can be configured to make getting into the third-row easier. These can also be fully-folded into the floor when not in use.

Another option is lighting the roof with a “starry sky” pattern comprising the Mercedes three-pointed star.

Despite being a screen-loaded affair, the Mercedes GLB has a series of rocker switches located below the air vents on the floating centre console, while physical buttons have replaced haptics on the steering wheel.

When it makes its debut, the new Mercedes GLB will – as before – be offered with an optional third row of seats. Acting as a replacement for the existing petrol- and diesel-powered GLB as well as the all-electric EQB, it will also ride on Mercedes’ new 800V MMA electrical architecture, which is able to support single-motor, rear-wheel drive and dual-motor, four-wheel drive layouts.

As well offering anywhere from 230bhp to 350bhp, the upcoming GLB’s 800V system can be fitted with either a 58kWh battery or an 85kWh unit. The same system is used to underpin the CLA, which can achieve up to 484 miles on a single charge.

In terms of visuals, the incoming Mercedes GLB EV appears to retain the boxy design of the outgoing car, albeit in a a wider, longer, and taller form. Further details are, however, tricky to figure out as the teaser shots provided by the Stuttgart-based manufacture picture the car covered in ice.

When it goes on sale in early 2026, the all-electric Mercedes GLB is expected to be priced from  around £45,000. Rivals will include the new BMW iX3, the Audi Q6 e-tron, and the upcoming Volvo EX60, which is set to arrive at around the same time.
