BYD launches ‘Back To School’ deal including £1,100 discount and free first service

BYD has announced a ‘Back to School’ deal offering a £1,100 discount, free service, and 0% APR, on its new and used range of fully-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The ‘Back to School’ offer begins on August 15 and concludes on August 25. The aim behind it is to get families behind the wheel of an electrified car before the start of the new school year, usually beginning on September 1 in England and Wales.

The cheapest car in BYD’s all-electric range is the BYD Dolphin Surf city car with its £18,650 price tag, followed by the Chinese manufacturer’s answer to the Volkswagen ID.3, the £30,205 BYD Dolphin. Next up are the mid-sized BYD Atto 3 SUV and BYD Seal executive saloon priced from £37,705 and £45,705 respectively.

BYD’s most expensive EV is the full-sized Sealion 7 SUV, which begins at £47,000.

The new offer applies to any new model from the range as well as all Approved Used BYD models sold through its UK-wide dealer network.

Regarding its most recent round of price cuts ahead of the new school year, BYD UK sales and marketing director, Steve Beattie, said: “September is a big milestone in the UK, as families across the country prepare to start the new school year.

“It’s a great opportunity for a fresh start, and why shouldn’t that include a shiny, new electrified car? BYD prides itself on offering high-tech, high-quality and high-value cars; so if you want to look good at the school gates, one of ours is a sure-fire way of getting noticed, for all the right reasons, in the new term.”

The ‘Back to School’ deal is available from each of the UK’s 82 BYD dealerships, and is the second special offer it has announced within a week. Unlike other Chinese carmakers, BYD has gone against the grain of introducing its own Electric Car Grant (ECG).

Instead, BYD has said it will offer five years of free maintenance across its range of EVs and increase the battery warranty to 155,000 miles (200,000km) – the equivalent of eight years – on selected models.

While it remains to be seen whether the deal will be introduced on the Seal and Sealion 7, the Dolphin Surf, Dolphin, and Atto 3 are already covered by the 155,000-mile deal.
