Mokka GSE fastest all-electric Vauxhall yet with 276bhp and front-mounted LSD

Vauxhall has taken the wraps off of its 276bhp Mokka GSE, which packs 276bhp and has a front-mounted Torsen limited slip differential like its sister cars, the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima and the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica.

The front-mounted, 276bhp motor is paired with a 54kWh battery launching the Vauxhall Mokka GSE from 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds and a 125mph top speed. Again, these figures are comparable to the Abarth and the Alfa Romeo. Take those figures and these cars’ architecture into account, and the Mokka GSE is likely to have a WLTP range of around 207 miles.

Further changes under the skin over the regular Mokka include ‘double hydraulic’ dampers, a rear axle that’s 189% stiffer than the standard Mokka, plus 38mm four-piston Alcon brakes up front. Vauxhall says it has also made several tweaks to the steering and chassis for a more engaging drive.

When it comes to visuals, the Vauxhall Mokka GSE takes several design cues derived from the GSE Rally prototype and nods to the brand’s involvement in e-rallying. These enhancements include GSE-branded inserts, alcantara sports seats and inserts, a racy GSE-specific design for the touchscreen, plus a new steering wheel taken from the bigger, more sensible Vauxhall Grandland.

Regarding the arrival of the Mokka GSE, Vauxhall managing director, Steve Catlin , commented: “Using years of pioneering electric motorsport experience, we have put our best engineering, power, and handling into a car made for daily thrills.

“With its striking design, sharp handling, and outstanding performance, the Mokka GSE is made to be exciting to drive and builds on a proud heritage of sporting Vauxhalls for the modern electric era.”

The Vauxhall Mokka GSE Rally shares its mechanicals with the road-going version, and made its competitive debut at the all-electric ELE Rally Eindhoven in May this year. Vauxhall’s sister company, Opel, also rallies a Corsa Electric in Germany’s ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup.
