2025 Tesla Model Y unveiled with new front end and almost 450 miles of range
An updated version of the world’s best-selling EV, the Tesla Model Y, has been unveiled as sales begin in China.
Codenamed Project Juniper, the new 2025 Tesla Model Y receives several exterior updates, including wraparound light bars front and rear, plus subtly redesigned bumpers in the name of efficiency.
With an overall length of 4,797mm, the 2025 Model Y is 47mm longer than the outgoing car, and 1mm thinner. To improve refinement, Tesla has fitted the refreshed Model Y with new suspension, wheels, and tyres.
Overall, the car’s drag coefficient has been reduced from 0.23cD to 0.22cD. Tesla claims that the updates will see the Long-Range All-Wheel Drive model return 447 miles on a single charge, while the standard-range Rear-Wheel Drive Model Y will achieve 368 miles. Details of a Long-Range Rear-Wheel-Drive are yet to be confirmed.
These figures represent an increase over the 331 mile range offered by the outgoing Model Y, which has since been surpassed by more wallet-friendly rivals such as the Skoda Enyaq and Kia EV6.
The Model Y’s peak charging rate remains at 250kW.
Inside, Tesla has updated the Model Y’s interior to reflect that of its sibling, the Model 3. The materials used in the cabin have been upgraded, and the car’s main functions are controlled by a 15.4-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard, which runs Tesla’s latest software to provide a smoother user experience.
Additional cabin updates include ventilated front seats with a new choice of materials, a smaller touchscreen in the rear, and folding backseats to improve bootspace.
Full specifications for the UK and European markets are expected over the next few weeks as the car arrives on the continent.
The Tesla Model Y was launched in 2017. It has become the best-selling EV in automotive history with over two million sold since coming to market.
